Never Stop Learning

Tech skills, on average, have a lifespan of only 2.5 years - keep up!

Opportunities to learn and grow are never in shortage.  Here are a few I rely on:

PODCASTS

Should we even call them podcasts anymore since iPods are all but obsolete?  How about mediacast?  Or "Presentation on Demand"(POD)-Cast?

The Dual Power of Mentorship: Both Giving and Receiving

Mentorship represents one of the most powerful forces in professional and personal development, creating a virtuous cycle that benefits individuals and organizations alike. When we engage in mentorship relationships from both sides—as mentors and mentees—we tap into a transformative dynamic that accelerates growth and builds institutional knowledge.

As mentees, we gain access to hard-won wisdom that might otherwise take years or even decades to acquire independently. A mentor's guidance helps us navigate complex challenges, avoid common pitfalls, and identify opportunities that might remain invisible without their perspective. This relationship provides a safe space to process failures, celebrate successes, and receive candid feedback essential for growth. The mentee gains not just technical knowledge but also confidence, professional judgment, and a broader understanding of their field.

Equally important is the role of mentor. When we guide others, we clarify and solidify our own knowledge through the process of articulation. Teaching forces us to examine our assumptions, refine our thinking, and often discover new insights about familiar territories. Mentoring others connects us to fresh perspectives and emerging ideas, keeping our thinking nimble and relevant. This reciprocal relationship prevents stagnation and fosters continuous learning.

In organizational contexts, strong mentorship cultures create resilient knowledge networks that transcend individual departures. They build institutional memory while simultaneously preparing the next generation of leaders. Organizations with robust mentorship programs typically demonstrate higher employee engagement, stronger succession planning, and more innovative problem-solving.

Throughout history's most significant achievements—whether in business, sports, science, or the arts—we consistently find powerful mentorship relationships at their core. These relationships create an unbroken chain of excellence that builds upon itself with each generation, fulfilling our fundamental human need to both learn from those who came before and guide those who will follow.

The most successful professionals understand this dual nature of mentorship. They remain perpetual students, always seeking guidance even as they achieve mastery, while simultaneously paying forward the mentorship they've received by investing in others. This balance creates not just individual success but lasting impact.
